Founding a Space for Untold Stories
Grace Carter founded The Platform in 2024 after realising there was a gap in the market - or should we say, a gap in the stories being told.
In the board rooms of the bigger streaming services - the ones where the decision-making rooms are filled with decision-makers of a certain gender, ethnicity and sexual persuasion (we’re not making any assumptions here, obviously… but you do the maths!) - people simply aren’t commissioning documentaries on the thorny, taboo topics - the “niche” ones. The uncomfortable ones.
Periods. Menopause. Racial discrimination. Pregnancy. Miscarriage. Entrepreneurship as a woman. Juggling a career and motherhood. Reclaiming your sexuality. Being queer.
There are many stories just waiting to be told. We’re here to do it. As the year progresses, we will continue adding to our portfolio of documentaries. Thank you for your support.
WHY WE EXIST
We exist because the stories that shape culture and power have long excluded those most impacted by systemic injustice. Mainstream media continues to prioritise profit over people, entertainment over truth, and spectacle over substance.
Issues central to women’s lives -who make up 51% of the global population - are often dismissed as niche and overlooked. Topics like sexuality, identity, health, and motherhood are sensationalised instead of being treated with the care and depth they deserve.
Meanwhile, the creators closest to these stories - emerging filmmakers, underrepresented voices, and small production houses -face immense barriers to entry.
Despite having bold, necessary perspectives, they’re routinely overlooked by mainstream platforms that prioritise celebrity, scale, and safety over truth, integrity and authenticity.
We exist to change that.
Our platform is a home for storytellers, deep thinkers, campaigners, and creators who live at the intersections of identity, resistance, and radical possibility. We prioritise the voices that mainstream media pushes to the margins: women of colour, queer and trans communities, caregivers, activists, and anyone daring to imagine a more liberated world.
